I haven't completed any equine related courses or college qualifications other than clinics offered at my stables.
My current occupation is being a college student where I'm required to complete work due by the end of the week to obtain my degree in Business Administration.
I don't have to typical equine experience where I was born into the industry, I actually got into equine on my own after starting college. When I started college at the age of 18 it was during the height of the pandemic and everything was online. I felt I need to get out in some way and be around people other than my family. I decided to start horseback riding because I thought it always looked fun, I researched stables near where I lived. I found a stable owned by a 26 year old woman who opened her own stables at the age of 17 years old. I started riding and was very intimated by the whole industry but I never gave up and once I started getting comfortable I realized I had a real passion for this industry and everything it involved. For the past four years I've kept up riding lessons at Jaks Stables and also started working at the stables shortly after starting. I've helped with feedings, mucking out stalls, barn and field maintenance, as well as a minimal work with training horses.
I'm efficient in mucking out stalls. I have great organization skills and had a tad bit of OCD, so when it comes to cleaning I pay super attention to detail. In previous jobs I've had to train new employees which has put me in a leadership position in which I excelled at. I have a mix of a servant and participative leadership style, I am more of a mentor when it comes to leading people, I want to teach them to become their own leaders.
My riding experience has been solely western work on quarter horse, mostly very broken horses. I worked with minimal green horses and no young horses. I've done ground work and in the saddle work. I've done a few western shows and have been taught proper horsemanship through this experience. I've just started getting into cattle work and roping and would love to learn more about this to make this into a future living.
I've done a hand full of western shows where I've competed in the adult division for horsemanship, included both ground and saddle work.
