Level 2 Apprenticeship in Horse Care - 2022 Intro to horse care - 2021 Diploma in canine psychology - 2018 Level 2 Apprenticeship in animal care diploma - 2016 9 GCSE B-C - 2013
Main duties: Feeding and making feeds, poo picking, rugging, filling haynets, tidying the yard and muck heap, full grooms and quartering and picking out feet, leading hacks, administrating medication, basic training.
I have intermediate experience working on a yard. My role during my time volunteering on the yard was to look after the rangers on the yard. I therefore needed to be train in specific areas such as bandaging, making up feeds with medication, the correct handling of horses: leading, picking out feet and lunging. I also had to train the new recruits in the correct way for their jobs ie. mucking out a stable. I also had to do a first aid course about the health and safety around and on a horse, which entailed learning about the diseases horses can get ie-colic, and how to treat them. I also had to help out in the afternoons with the younger recruits, which meant being trained to lead a horse with a rider on it and how to conduct a ride. During my apprenticeship I have developed my previous learnt skills and learnt management skills including making staff rotas, risk assessments, and learning about the day to day running of the yard to ensure the horses receive a high level of care.
Working with troubled horses/ponies, Bringing horses into work, Creating feeding charts, Making staff rotas, Efficient mucking out/poo picking, Lunging, Making feeds & haynets, Administering medicine, Holding horses/ponies for vet, farrier, dentist,
I have basic riding skills, this includes: basic dressage, hacking, poll work, road safety and walk and trot. (I have cantered before but it was a while ago) I know how to bring a horse into work from ground work through to lunging in side reins to improve the horses balance and form.
