Main duties of being a equine groom is caring for the horses such as (mucking out, cleaning tack, monitoring the condition of horses) . Knowing first aid for the horses. Exercising, warming up or cooling down the horse for the rider.
I have passed all of my Equine course at Kingston Maurward College. On this college course I was taught the main duties in caring for horses and to make sure I’m fast, up to standard and efficient. I was also taught when to know there is a health problem or behaviour problem with a horse and how to sort it out or report it. Whilst learning all the main duties I learnt how to ride different ages and variety of naughty or good behaved horses also how to control them.
I also own my own horse that I compete from time to time. He is a very nervous horse and can have hard time trusting people when I got him with this I have taught him horsemanship and is now a very confident horse.
In the past I have worked as a carriage driving/ showing stud groom where I went over the country to big shows to help groom or sometimes compete for them. When working at the yard we worked on main duties and also exercised.
Basic horse handling skills. I am comfortable around horses especially in a hands on capacity. I have gained experience working with horses of different ages and breeds. I am familiar with the different grooming equipment I have the confidence to use clippers to trim excess hair. I pay close observation to the horse when grooming in case of any potential health issues. I class myself as being physically fit. I can also recognise when a horse is having a health or behaviour problem.
I am a very advanced rider I have been riding for 8 or so years. I’m confident and will ride anything I get asked to ride. Know exactly what I’m doing when it comes to schooling a horse. I love to go XC and go out hunting more then anything, but still enjoy showjumping and dressage. I’m very good dealing with naughty horses and know how to stay calm and get them over whatever the problem is. Know how to control a horse when it comes to hacking out on the roads or galloping in a field.
I have only really competed in small showjumping XC or Dressage events. I have shown and groomed in county level events aswell.
