Looking for a groom/rider position. I don’t mind if riding isn’t apart of the plan. I’m hardworking, trusting, loyal and always on time. I would like a live-in position as well. I enjoy flat work, ponies (I’m small enough to ride a medium pony), jumping (getting back into jumping), and challenges. I don’t really ride baby horses who are just starting out but I’m willing to challenge myself if I have to for it. Getting a flight is hard to come and fly out.
We are looking for a person to join our team who is interested in training, riding, and showing (1) own sons, daughters and grand daughters of some “living legends” such as Colonel Freckles, Mr. Melody Jac, Gallo Del Cielo, Wimpys Little Step, and Von Reminiic, (2) own sons and daughters of stallions that have won the NRHA Futurity, the NRHA Derby, or the NRBC such as Yellow Jersey ,Frozen Enterprize., and Shine Chic Shine.
Most of the horses being used in our program have been born here as have their mothers and grandmothers. In addition to training and showing western performance horses, we are also looking for a person that (1) enjoys being involved with young adults with and without learning disabilities, (2) believes that both horses and people like to be in control of their environment and is (3) willing to learn to use barefoot trimming techniques,
Our equine jobs for youth program was developed to help youths primarily in the 18 to 23 year old age range find employment. The program includes both young adults with learning disabilities and young adults without learning disabilities
Because of the strategies used to train our horses, all of the horses can be used in our jobs for youth program. Since the purpose of the program is to prepare young adults for equine related occupations these students are taught a wide variety of horse related skills based on their interests and background experiences. Some of the skills they are taught include but are not limited to barn maintenance, farm maintenance, horse handling, and barefoot trimming.
The main focus of this position would be on learning to train horses of all age levels in such a way that (1) they can be shown in performance horse competition, and (2) they can be used in our equine jobs for youth program.
We have an assistant barn manager, who is responsible for cleaning the stalls, so part of the job would be to keep him on task.
Need to be open to using strategies for training horses in such a way that both the horse and the trainer feel they are in charge of their learning environment.
Private housing including living area, dining area, bath & shower
The position includes housing, utilities and wifi. Modest base pay will be enhanced by a very aggressive incentive program. We are located in Alvin, Texas which is half way between Houston and Galveston.
Services offered include an equine jobs for youth program, lighted covered arena, lighted covered round pen, reining track, cutting round pen, and access to acres of trail riding. There are also some exceptional educational opportunities available, including internships.
