This is a NON-paying position, it's a learning opportunity. Someone who would like to gain experience to start a career learning to manage a barn. This is a LIVE-IN position. Looking for someone for 3 months at time, possibly longer. We maintain a 6-day work week with consistent barn hours.

The position manages all barn staff ensuring that the day-to-day care, rehabilitation and training of the horses as well as facility maintenance is held to our Standard of Care. Oversee the daily care of horses in training and rehab. Manage and record supply ordering, analyze opportunities for spending/savings, coordinate communication between the office and barn staff/volunteers, possess strong administrative and organizational skills able to use Google Sheets to track horse evaluations and care. Able to file or work in office. Able to manage volunteers to be on task and schedules. Although you will have hands on, there will typically be 2-4 full-time, live-in volunteers to help with chores allowing you to supervise/manage.

Duties include feeding, working horses, you must be confident in handling horses in turnout/bringing in, seasonal blanketing/fly spray, cleaning stalls and being aware of any changes in the horses behavior or medical issues that need to be addressed. This position will include grooming and cleaning stalls as well as oversight of the general barn maintenance and upkeep, placing weekly feed & supply orders with Exe Director, and keeping up with the cleanliness the facility. Opportunity to learn skills before moving on to bigger barns.

Must be an EARLY riser. *** IF YOU ARE A NIGHT OWL OR CANT BE IN ROUTINE TO GET UP AT 530-6AM THEN PLEASE DO NOT APPLY. We need people who can get OUT of bed and be functional at barn by 0630. NOT jumping out of bed at 6:25 and rushing to the barn. This creates a safety issue if you are not awake around horses. Sat/Sun up 630-7am, barn 730. Evening feed is at 5 or 6pm

Requirements

Someone with initiative, organized, people skills, not afraid of physical work. No princesses or entitled attitudes - We don't do drama, if you create it you will be asked to leave. Someone 18 or older, single. Proper barn attire MANDATORY. No alcohol/drugs allowed on property and please do not come back under the influence. This is a Sober Living Facility. We are unable to accommodate pets or horses. We have dogs on property/in house and cat at the house.

Barn attire a MUST. Be it English or Western. No revealing clothes inside or outside of house (low cut, cleavage hanging out), bare midriffs or shirts open on sides even if you have a sports bra on, see through tops or inappropriate holes. Ladies, please remember to wear jeans, breeches(not so tight that non-ladylike) or shorts that will not expose your undergarments when bending over or show through material. (No thongs hanging out the back) Shorts should be at least mid-thigh and down–5” minimum length. (No daisy dukes ladies please) This is to include going out on outings with Staff or regular volunteers from here. You are representing Horse Feathers and also edifying the elderly/seniors who come here. This is not a beach, hostel or otherwise where you need to dress less.
Someone with people skills who can work with the volunteers who come here to learn. Must be 18 or older. Must be able to keep your quarters clean and organized including the Guest Bath. Please remember you are living in our home. This is a chance for you to build your resume'.

We provide you with a Dorm type room in main house that is shared, full bath in hall, bathroom supplies, laundry supplies, meals, snacks, etc. You are required to clean bathroom once weekly and keep your room in order/clean 5 miles from town, shopping. Free wi-fi. Will pick up from airport. Can assist with transport to town. Meals provided, Wi-Fi, Cable and housing. Must clean own dishes, cooking area. We are like "family" here, community where we all work together. We need someone we can trust with the care of our horses and to be in our home.

Perfect position for someone willing to give horses a second chance and try them out for various jobs Eng/Wes/Dressage

This is a position that would be a wonderful learning opportunity for anyone wanting to pursue their own career in the equestrian industry.
