Looking for dedicated, quiet, experienced horse person for GFAS accredited 501(c) (3) non profit sanctuary, caring for 8 horses and 7 donkeys. Reliability and maturity are musts. Days required are Fridays 10-4 , Saturdays 7:30-11:30, Sundays 7:30-4 and Mondays 10-4. Duties include: feeding, watering, grooming, equine first aid, picking stalls and pastures,. I require a caretaker whose FIRST priority is the animals. All animals are treated with utmost kindness and respect
Requirements
Reliability. Promptness. Dedication to put the animals first! I require an employee that, though perhaps experienced, does not insert their experience into the way we interact with the equines here, unless asked. So-called “disciplining” of the equines is not part of our dynamic. They are rescues who have come a long way with patience and understanding, not “discipline”. We enjoy experiences together not “results”. Safety first for both humans and equines in an at-liberty environment. Ability for infrequent overnight farm sitting a plus.
Required Key Skills
Driving license Equine First-Aid Bandaging Sole ChargeAccommodation
For any overnight farm sitting, there is a studio loft apartment available.
Job Benefits
Pay that will be raised based on longevity and merit. A quiet, low key atmosphere with availability of full kitchen, 3 bathrooms and 2 hot water showers, plus air-conditioning in pleasant employee break area. Owner's horses only, no boarders.

What If Farms is a 501 (c) (3) non profit sanctuary for 8 rescued horses and 6 donkey rescues (plus one baby donkey), with 40 acres of grassland and ponds with pole barns and shelters surrounded by lush pastures and a Paddock Paradise track. The horses have the choice to be in or out of their stalls. We work as much as possible with the animals at liberty. What If Farms is a place where horses can just be horses, and donkeys (very sweet donkeys) can just be donkeys, interacting with humans in ways that benefit both human AND horse. The atmosphere is peaceful and quiet. What If Farms is very different than a traditional horse barn or farm, requiring an open mind and flexibility. Kindness is #1! What If Farms offers retreat facility rentals as well as retreats for restoring mind and spirit. We are currently pioneers of the concepts introduced in the book "Equus Lost", doing course work at Learning Animals in Italy to be better able to promote this iconoclastic approach.
