We are looking for an experienced Head Groom to join our professional eventing team. This role supports a talented young rider competing at the very top level nationally and internationally. We are a small, friendly team with a welcoming and supportive working environment. You will play a central role in the smooth running of the yard and success at competitions, and act as a mentor and role model to junior team members.
We are looking for someone who has excellent horsemanship and presentation standards. The role will cover:
All general yard duties including mucking out, handling, grooming.
Field duties and arena maintenance (e.g. harrowing at the end of each day).
Preparing horses for competition, accompanying at home and international competitions / training venues.
Groundwork with horses e.g. handling on and off horse walker, lunging, long reining.
Riding is possible depending on ability, but not necessary.
We have a mixture of competition horses in work and young stock, so you must be confident in handling a variety of horses.
Minimum requirements: At least 5 years working as a groom on a competition yard. Driving licence HGV licence is desirable Professional qualifications (BHS, qualifications in equine care or management) are desirable but not essential.
Accommodation
Onsite (shared) accommodation is available. Role is live in or live out.
Job Benefits
5.5 day work week (5 day/6 day week shift pattern, flexible and weekend working will be required during competition season). Overnight duties will be required (with accommodation on site). Competitive salary. 25 days paid holidays per year. Further professional training is supported and encouraged. The role is not live-in, but accommodation is available on-site if needed. Option to bring your own horse.
