Girls camp that runs an introductory riding program. We have 13 horses that are rented to our facility each summer. These horses live in a pasture while at Whispering Winds, and are fed 2-3 times a day. Staff are expected to know how to care for the horses (feeding, grooming, tacking up, etc.), all while being able to teach children aged 9-17 how to behave around horses.
Children are on camp for around a week, and have the opportunity to learn the basics of horse anatomy, riding skills, behavior and general horse care. The setting in which this takes place is usually a large square arena, or three different round pens. More advanced groups have the opportunity to go on a short trail ride in the hills behind camp on their last day.
