35,000 acre sheep and beef property This country and its mountains provided a magnificent backdrop in the Lord of the Rings movie "The Two Towers". The station (aka ranch or massive farm!) includes a large Clydesdale Stud and we breed big numbers of Clydesdales. We endeavour to work horses instead of vehicles. The 8 horse Clydesdale team is used for working ground and also in our tourism operation taking people on Clydesdale wagon rides at the station or to one of our High Country huts for the ultimate back country experience.
We have approximately 65 horses on the station all year round, but this spikes up to 80 odd when foals arrive in spring. We breed full clydesdales and half draughts where our heavy mares go to a lighter thoroughbred stallion to produce a sensible sport horse. Many of these are sold in May when we wean the foals. All the horses earn their keep here whether it be working in the team, making babies or youngsters growing up!
