Misc. College courses in Equine studies… basic hoof care, the problem hoof, absolute lack of hoof care and proper balance of the hoof. Equine Science… 6 month intensive course with mornings being working students at various larger farms and also smaller private farms. Classroom studies in the afternoon. Manager of various horse farms as we as my own.over seeing the day to day care of the horses. Teaching the working students how to do things correctly from proper safety and care when dealing with horses to proper grooming or cooling out a hot hors.
After being in the profession for a very long time I still love it. I have introduced people from 8-80 years how to ride, having compassion for the horse, how to care for them in a safe & proper manner, and so much more. Teaching the horses was my passion, though. I’ve taken many equine oriented courses in a local college and have a certificate from an Equine Science course. It was an intensive 6 month course where I was a working student at various levels and kinds of working barn’s from flat racing to the steeplechase horses and smaller farms. Standardbred horses, broodmares, etc. College classes concerning shoeing, anatomy and physiology of the horse, and more. I shadowed a equine veterinarian for a while when I had time, helping with surgery and treatments on the farm. Amish and we “ English “ . It was fascinating. Now, I’m ready to slow down and use my experience with running a barn or teaching/ consulting.
Having been a show groom in the past, I am efficient at putting a natural shine on a horse. I have managed horse farms… foaling, getting mares in foal, working with the babies, training saddle horses and driving horses, showing and most importantly, having a happy healthy equine, A clean happy barn is imperative to having happy, relaxed horses.
I am experienced with the hunter/ jumper world and dropped out due to the people. I’ve started many young horses for under saddle , driving.Started ponies and the mini horses also. I am well versed in dealing with the problem / abused horses. Those who won’t think twice about taking a human out. The abused are my favorite ones. Many times they just need to have a chance to relax and recover from whatever trauma they’ve been through. Then to begin over with the understanding that they are different
I have shown open jumpers when I much younger, equitation in the world of Appaloosa horses and open shows I raised, trained and bred Apps for 18 years. With these I showed at National levels. Training for clients, riding lessons for all ages, horsemanship (ground training) lessons, working student programs and within the realm of training/ showing, my favorite Percheron mare and I went on to become World Champions.
