All of my professional qualifications would most likely be administrative or managerial. I feel qualified to teach beginner and intermediate riders, and would be very happy managing a small operation, of less than 10 horses. I feel quite confident schooling and hacking a variety of horses. I can drive a tractor, and am not opposed to hard and dirty work.
I have worn a variety of hats in my life, some of these include, restaurant manager, bartender, personal trainer, property manager, groom, wrangler, vet tech, landscaper, nanny, cook, and yacht stewardess.
I began riding as a youngster at an A-circuit hunter jumper barn on Johns Island in South Carolina. When we moved to Washington State, I bought my first pony at age 13 with money I'd saved babysitting. My first love is jumping, but as I get older I really want to focus more on dressage and my relationship and communication with my horse. I have owned several horse as an adult and have always become very involved at every boarding facility I've boarded at. I have always been happy to help with chores, fix a fence, hold a horse, etc. I have groomed for several west coast hunter/jumper trainers, and worked as a wrangler at a luxury guest ranch in the Okanagan. I am at ease treating injuries, giving IM injections, wrapping, clipping and hauling a horse trailer.
I am a jack of all trades and always ready and willing to try something new. I am accustomed to working for a high end and discerning clientele, and am adept at anticipating needs and solving problems. In addition, I bring an efficient, organized and can-do attitude and am a great team player.
I am a confident rider, but not over-confident. I approach riding with the attitude that I always have more to learn. I try to ride a horse in a balanced and forward frame, aiming for relaxation and fluidity. I enjoy jumping, dressage, cross country, fox hunting, trail riding, and schooling. I have started two horses, one an older untouched mare at 5 years, and the other a yearling. I currently jump my Shire/Thoroughbred cross around 3' to 3'6".
I have groomed at competition, but not competed as an adult.
