Equine Work Experience
Prior to working my animal ride job, which I have done for the past three years, I worked at a polo horse farm for over ten years taking care of anywhere between 4-8 horses. One of my main duties there was so give them all exercise, at sometimes I would be riding for over 5-6 hours a day. I also would do all the barn chores, from mucking stalls to feeding. On days where polo matches happened, I was there to groom and assist the polo player I worked for, making sure the horses clean, tacked properly and warmed up and ready to go. I was trained in driving a truck and horse trailer as well, though it has been a few years since I have done that.
I also have experience monitoring sick or injured horses, as injuries are inevitable with sport horses. I have cleaned wounds, bandaged injuries, and adminstering medications.
I am also currently employed at Northwestern Stables in Philadelphia PA where I work as barn help. I muck stalls, pick paddocks and turn horses in and out.
Type of Ride Work
It was a very relaxed and not strict form of riding, it was mainly providing exercise for polo horses, a lot of trotting, cantering and galloping, however also keeping the horses up to par on their quick stopping and sudden turns.
I did however show in both English and hunter/jumper for two years so I have been on the stricter, more professional side of riding as well.
Beginner English and Hunter/Jumper Competition only.
