Equine Work Experience
I took lessons when I was younger and am continuing to take lessons now. I took a western riding class while I was a student at UMaine in Orono, Maine where I learned about different aspects of western riding such as roping and round penning and worked on my walk, jog, and canter. I also worked with retired Standardbred race horses for three years during my internship at UMaine when I was a student there. Through my internship, I helped retrain the Standardbreds to be able to be ridden nicely and I helped take care of them. I learned about grooming, tacking/untacking, leading a horse, riding skills, diagonals while riding, lunging, teasing and collecting from a stallion, cleaning tack, bathing horses, mucking stalls, feeding, and more. I also competed in two horse shows with two of those Standardbreds.
Type of Ride Work
I know how to walk and trot/jog. I am working on perfecting my canter. I know my two - point, but am working on jumping. I usually ride English, but have ridden Western as well.
I have competed in two W/T Equitation classes, one W/T Pleasure class, one W/T Command class, one Ground Poles class, and one Carrot Race. I received third in both of my Equitation classes, fifth in my Pleasure class, fifth in my Command class, third in the Ground Poles class, and first in the Carrot race.
