I have worked alongside my boss in starting many young horses on the ground as well as breaking them. I have also shadowed the vet, aided in multiple pre-purchase exams, and worked closely with the full-time horse show manager and have acted as horse show manager at HITS this past summer of 2016.
Equine Work Experience
Since I began riding I was in the show ring at both local shows as well as A, B, and C rated shows. From leadline to short stirrup, and the equitation ring to the hunter ring, I have experience in a multitude of ways. During the winter of 2014 I acquired a position at a show farm specializing in equitation and hunters as an exercise rider, horse show manager, and as time went on I began to pick up things that needed to be done such as clipping, tacking, rehabbing, etc. For 6 years I also worked at the local tack shop. Working at the shop gave me a wide array of knowledge as to what different pieces of tack do, different supplements, all of the options on the market, and many other things. Last but not least, I am a rider in the Intercollegiate Horseshow Association through my college. I also take western horsemanship and reining lessons through a private farm near my home as well as through my college.
I have ridden hunt seat my entire life, however, the past three years I have been taking western horsemanship lessons and within the past year, I have begun taking reining lessons. I enjoy working with horses on the ground as much as I do riding and I enjoy working on horses with behavioral issues.
Currently, I am an open hunter seat equitation rider on the flat and an intermediate hunter seat equitation rider over fences, however, I am very close to being open over fences as well. I also compete on my college's western team. I am in the advanced horsemanship currently. I need 15 more points to be in the open horsemanship, where I will also complete in reining.
I have shown locally as well as at rated shows such as Old Salem Farm, Gardnertown Farm, HITS, and many others.
