Equine Work Experience
Graduated from Virginia Intermont College in 1988 with a degree in Equine Studies. Worked as head trainer and barn manager at Rolling Rock Farm South in Hillsborough NC for 2 yrs, moved to the southwest to be a rider for a top hunter/jumper barn, Invicta Farms.Worked for this barn from 1989 to 1994. Began my own barn in 1994, at one point had 35 horses in full board, care, and training and oversaw a staff of 8 people. Traveled to shows throughout Zone 7 and 8. Experience with every aspect of horse management and care.
I have owned and operated a very successful hunter/jumper barn for over 20 yrs. I love working with both children and adults to reach their goals in a safe, fun, positive, and attainable way. My students are confident and prepared when we go to shows. The time spent at home doing flatwork, riding without stirrups, gymnastics, pole exercises, etc. gives them the foundation to be confident. I have overseen staff and I communicate well with clients. I bring green horses along slowly and correctly
Type of Ride Work
I begin all horses with my background and foundation in dressage. I believe that horses should be long and low, loose and supple, and relaxed before they are asked to compress themselves and go into the bridle. I ask horses to respect aids and respond correctly while being patient and kind. I have brought horses from the baby green hunters all the way into the Grand Prix ring.
Showed and competed successfully all over the US. My 17 year old daughter whom I have trained since she was 3 years old just won the gold medal on her 17th birthday 3 weeks ago at the Zone 7-8 Junior Jumper Championships in Oklahoma City. She won her first Grand Prix in Tucson as a 14 year old. We took a pony 2 years ago off a kill truck at the sales barn and trained him to be 4th in the Nation at Pony Finals in Kentucky in 2016.
