I have been riding since I was 5 years old. From ages 5 to 12, I had weekly lessons at a small barn owned by a family friend. The horses were all rescues. At a young age I gained first-hand experience with difficult horses, primarily riding Western. From ages 13 to 16 I took lessons at Laurel Hill stables Primarily an English barn, it was there I learned a more formal approach to horsemanship. From ages 16 to 18 I worked with Lee Thompson at a small private barn in Amherst, MA. Lee became my trainer and mentor. There I picked up western again. Lee made me not only a strong rider but she showed me a spiritual side to working with animals, she provided me with a calm balanced approach to working with horses. I do not have the typical background in horsemanship. I believe this makes me stronger and better rider and teacher. I am able to adapt to challenging situations. I work calmly and patiently and understand that with all animals balance and connection is key.
