As a lifeguard, I have been proficient in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. I would need to update my certification as my license was only good for one year. I excel in people skills and handling money. I have hospitality training and have even earned an award for my extensive actions to maintain the safety of guests. As an assistant manager, teamwork is a necessity. I rely heavily on my coworkers, and in return, they rely on me. Communication is key and lack thereof results in sloppy work.
I spent a year in New York as the assistant barn manager at a horse barn. We had 30 horses and I fed 3 times a day. I groomed, tacked, and led horses for lessons of children from 5-17. I worked 6 days a week from dawn to dusk from September - July.
As the assistant manager at a horse barn, I worked with horses every day. I led and occasionally exercised a yearling. I mainly fed up to 30 horses 2 to 3 times a day. In the mornings, I fed them morning grain around 7am. By 8am two of us began barn chores (mucking stalls, cleaning water buckets, filling hay nets, blowing out barns, cleaning tack rooms & bathrooms, etc). If we had time before lunch, we would bring horses in and exercise them or find other tasks to do around the barns or in the paddocks. After lunch, we brought in horses for lessons and groomed and tacked them up for the lessons kids. I assisted with lessons when needed, but mainly found other tasks to do around the barns. After lessons, I would help untack and groom the horses before turning them out for the night. After all the horses were turned out, I fed evening grain from 6pm-7pm.
I consider myself an extremely motivated and determined person. I bring great ethics and teamwork to the table. I am very flexible when it comes to where I’m needed. I can pick up on tasks very quickly and am determined to get the job done efficiently.
I had a couple of English lessons per month while working at a barn. I am able to walk, trot, (and canter on a beginner horse). I would mainly exercise "troublemakers" and occasionally do ground work with our yearling. I have about a year of riding experience but am looking forward to gaining more experience and even learning new styles of riding.
