I am a keen aspiring groom who has been working with horses on a voluntary basis, and am now looking for a full or part-time opportunity to progress my career and gain more experience. I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. Ideally, I would be looking for a role in the Basingstoke area while I'm learning to drive, but happy to consider a live-in position in the wider Hampshire region or further afield.
I have ridden for 19 years, owned horses for 13. Got my first barn job in January of 2008. Left the industry for a few years for college; I attended Bradley University where I earned a BS in Entrepreneurship. After graduating, I started running my trainer's boarding farm before finances pushed me to find a "big girl job." I have struggled to find something that will incorporate my passion for horses as well as my knowledge and education while allowing for personal and professional growth.
Management: sole-charge including daily horse care, facility maintenance, scheduling farrier and vet appointments and holding horses, managing feed and supply inventory
Grooming: home and show grooming experience for eventing, jumpers, hunters, western, dressage, polo, and driving
Training ground work, lunging, line-driving, and saddle-training for softness and responsiveness to leg aids; usually work with young horses or helping to retrain the foundation on "trouble" horses, but I have been training my own horse building the foundation for lateral movement, collection, and extension
Instructing taught groups of children about horse care and handling, beginner riders on the flat and over fences
My primary focus as a rider and trainer is eventing. In the past, I have ridden western, trails, barrel racing, hunt seat, jumpers, dressage, saddleseat, polo, and driving. While I have experience and can perform the fundamentals of most any style of riding, eventing is where my heart lies and where I plan to continue growing myself.
