Care for horse herds, schedule appointments with the vet and farrier, ordering grain/hay as needed, monitoring and doctoring horses as needed, maintaining exercise/nutrition plans, maintaining ranch facilities, vehicle upkeep, machinery operation
I have a BS in Agricultural Science, with a focus in Animal Science, and a minor in Equine Studies. While in college I showed competitively for my IHSA team, and my coursework focused mainly in large animal management, equine/bovine Health, Training, Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, and Reproduction. I have worked at various dude ranches/barns, and have just recently finished working at a 25,000 acre ranch in Wyoming as their Equine Manager. While there I managed a herd of horses anywhere from 70-100 head, developed health protocols (including vaccine, wormer, and dental schedules), recognized and doctored injured horses (hauling them to the vet when necessary), developed the farrier rotation, and maintained/improved all ranch facilities. I managed the rotation of pastures to maximize forage production, and rode all the ranch owned horses to help further their training. In addition, I also led horsemanship clinics, arena games, trail rides, overnight trips, and private lessons.
