I have fourteen years of riding experience and a lot of that time was spent riding greenies. I have spent the most influential years of my riding career riding hunters and jumpers, but have recently added dressage to the mix.
I have experience with medical care, especially regarding colic.
I have experience working at a barn. I've cleaned stalls, fed horses, turned horses out, watered, groomed, lunged, and have completed general barn cleaning and management tasks.
Hi! I'm a third year college student studying Interior Architecture, but I'm also very enthusiastic about horses! Since classes are likely going to be online this upcoming semester, I'm looking for a working student job that I can learn a lot from!
I've been riding since I was six years old, so for just over fourteen years now. I started out in saddle seat, then barrel racing (fearless 8-year-old energy right there), then saddle seat again, and finally, I've been in the hunter/jumper world for the past five or six years. Recently I've also been taking dressage lessons.
I got my own horse in fall of 2016. At the time he was one year off the track and a late gelded, very green five and a half year old. Probably not the best idea for my first horse, but we've made it work. We've been competing in the hunters mostly, some jumpers, and have recently branched out into dressage. He's challenged me in more ways than I thought possible, but I have learned so much from working with him.
As I stated above, I also trained a medium pony to do the hunters. She was sassy and helped reinforce the concept of patience when working with green/young horses.
I also have experience w/ feeding, turnout, watering, and other general barn tasks.
Call me a colic expert! My own horse has chronic colic and has colicked easily over fifteen times, so at this point I'm very skilled in noticing the signs and how to care for him when he is sick.
I enjoy working with young horses, and I started and trained a medium pony myself. She was a sassy little thing, and definitely challenged me, but I enjoyed working with her.
I own a somewhat anxious OTTB, so I'm used to working with horses that need a little bit of help with their confidence.
I currently ride mostly hunters, but have been starting dressage lessons on a more regular and serious basis. I've done everything from poles to 3' hunters. Lately, I've been reintroducing my horse to jumping after a year off only doing flatwork due to a concussion. We're slowly working our way back up as we rebuild the basics and fill in any holes. I enjoy flatting and teaching greenies to jump. For me, I am more interested in quality than height, especially with younger horses.
I've never been able to afford more than a schooling show, so I'll be the first to admit that in that regard my show record is not that impressive. However, in a summer schooling series in 2017 I got high point champion with my own horse. With the green, medium pony that I trained, after only two shows in the series we got fifth for the year in the beginner hunter and equitation divisions. We also won the $150 hunter classic in only her second show. We did everything from poles to the 2'6".
