I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. I am a military vet with a strong work ethic. My love for horses stems from the bond initialized through therapeutic horsemanship. I have devoted the last 2 1/2 years to place myself around horses to better understand them and how to communicate with them. I am a certified ARC instructor, and have assisted in training professionals in the industry to ensure standards are in compliance. I have a background in public services, so I understand the importance of effective communication skills.
Instructing CPR/First Aid/ AED. Maintaining
I studied at Meredith Manor in the dressage riding discipline. My studies also included training, showing, horse and barn management, and equine massage. As a member of PATH Intl, I earned my certification as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL). I have had the opportunity to assist with operations at various barns in the Mid Ohio Valley region, ranging from therapeutic centers and rescue operations to assisting with community events handling equines. I have also been involved in duties such as gate keeping and crowd control for eventing.
As a PATH member and instructor, my passion is equine assisted activities and therapy (EAAT). I have worked closely with clients having a range of mental and/or physical impairments. I believe that my work in this field has allowed me to focus on the needs of the horse as we as the rider/participant.
I have riding experience in both western and dressage. I have been partnered with well trained school horses, as well as horses with very little saddle time. I am looking forward to growing my strengths as a rider in all or any discipline. Communication with the horse is imperative to me.
As a participant in the veteran's therapeutic riding program, I was given the opportunity to compete in the AQHA Congress in Ohio (2018). This competition consisted of a walk/trot. I placed 10th. The event was a fantastic way to meet with other veterans benefitting from animal assisted activities and therapy. It also gave me a taste of the routines and riggers of showing.
