Qualifications
I have lots of practical exposure and experience with horses, and have also taken some online courses for continuing education on equine nutrition, saddle fitting, bodywork, grooming, and more.
Duties of Current Occupation
Currently, I work as an electrical engineer at Bonneville Power Administration, however I have always wanted to be part of the equine industry and grew up around horses. My current duties revolve around programming relays and planning substations.
Equine Work Experience
- Strides for Equality Equestrian ESS program participant: worked and learned at Overlook Farm in Virginia under 5* eventer Sara Kozumplik.
- Working student: assisted with horse care at Christus Farm (Amy Gau) in exchange for ride time.
- Have taken lessons with many trainers, focusing on dressage, eventing, and groundwork including Amy Gau; LaDene Scott (follows Karl Mikolka's methodologies); Brooke Phillips; and Sara Kozumplik; have taken clinics with Anna Collier; John Camlin; Peter Gray; Kimberlee Barker and more.
- Currently own one horse.
Specialities
- Attention to detail is a personal philosophy: If I wouldn't eat or drink from it, it needs to be cleaned. Hooves are to be picked at least 1x per day. If there is manure in the arena ride around it until you can remove it. If a horse has a scratch or bump, it will be noted and taken care of if needed. And much more..
- Gentle handling: Horses owe us nothing, give them some grace! I do not believe in hitting horses and I am careful to read body language.
Type of Ride Work
- Have assisted in backing ponies as I am a smaller person
- Happy to ride anything
- Happy to also ride my own horse only, I find joy in both riding and caring for horses
Competition Details
I compete my own horse at novice level eventing when I can. I have also shown horses for others (catch riding) and have worked as a show groom.
