Duties of Current Occupation
Exercise/training rider, stable manager for jumpers, eventers, polo, fox hunters in USA, England, and north Africa. Young/green horses, re-training horses coming back into work, feed, turnout, groom/tack, pull manes, clip, trailer, lunge, load, etc.
Equine Work Experience
I started working for a schooling stable in exchange for extra riding time around 10-years-old. I mowed the property weekly and groomed at local horse shows for other child riders. In high school and college, I exercised hunter/jumpers and event horses for stables traveling to rated shows. After college, I accepted a working student position with 4* eventer Ashley Johnson in Ocala, Florida for 8-months, trailering horses from Pennsylvania to Florida for the winter, setting up and cleaning out temporary stalls, managing a property with 17 horses, rotating for turnout, seeding grass fields, mowing, dragging arenas, grooming and riding sales horses to present to prospective buyers and for vetting, scheduling farrier/vet/massage/acupuncture/chiropractic visits, ordering hay and grain, daily feeding and supplements, started 2-year-olds and trained on the property as well as local schooling events under instruction of professional trainer. For the past 10 years, I've exercised part-time.
Specialities
In addition to many years working with horses in professional and personal capacities, I had a career in photojournalism with extensive overseas experience and photographed horse sport including drag hunts in England, eventing and jumpers throughout the USA, and Pony Club. I travel well and efficiently. Manage logistics for people and horses in transit by ground and air. Entry-level vet tech with foals, stallions, and broodmares; turnout for sales and upper level eventing competitions.
Type of Ride Work
I have exercised horses from a diverse range of backgrounds in professional and private stables: polo ponies and endurance stallions in north Sudan; fox hunters in NE England; 4* eventers in Ocala, FL as a working student; nationally-competitive show jumpers in San Antonio, TX; and had an internship as an equine vet tech in Leesburg, VA. Adaptable with the horses I've ridden and owners/competitors I've worked for - green, young, problem/frustrated horses, OTTB, flatwork, low jumpers.
Competition Details
Competitive groom for 4* eventer in Ocala, Florida traveling to local show jumping and 1-day events as well as three-day short format. Organized local non-recognized schooling shows for children and amateur adults, Pony Club clinics/mounted and unmounted meetings/camps in West Texas. Competed in local unrecognized hunter/jumpers shows, Hunter Paces, and fox hunts with Bedford County Hunt as a child.
