Duties of Current Occupation
I am in my first year at Texas Tech’s School of Veterinary Medicine and do not currently have a job, but I am looking for one for over the summer.
Equine Work Experience
I started riding at a therapeutic riding center when I was a freshman in high school. I wanted to do more, so I moved barns and started riding at a hunter / jumper barn as a junior in high school. I quickly became known as the “energizer bunny,” because I would get on anything my trainer would offer and I never wanted to quit. I normally rode 2-3 horses a day and often rode the horses my trainer was having problems with. I rode on the equestrian team at TTU until I bought my first horse from an equine vet I was working with at the time. The vet specialized in equine reproduction which I loved getting to help with. She also bred warm blood draft crosses and I got to help train the babies. My mare was a recip mare that we did not know was broke. I have trained her to do hunters and have taken her to a couple of small scale open shows. I am eager to learn and increase my skills as a rider. One day my goal is to event!
Type of Ride Work
I am a vet student, so most of my time is spent studying, but I go ride as my stress relief. I typically ride (or lunge my horse) 4-5 times a week. My favorite thing to do is jump but I recognize you can only do that so often. I am not currently with a trainer consistently but I do take occasional lessons. I have a lot to learn but I’m willing to put in the work and become a better rider!
