I am a keen aspiring groom who has been working with horses on a voluntary basis, and am now looking for a full or part-time opportunity to progress my career and gain more experience. I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. Ideally, I would be looking for a role in the Basingstoke area while I'm learning to drive, but happy to consider a live-in position in the wider Hampshire region or further afield.
I have a drivers license I am also self motivated, reliable, know basic barn safety and I’m very punctual. Also, I learn very quickly.
Stocking drawers with syringes, needles, tape, vet wrap and other supplies. Restrain dogs and cats for samples and fluids. Run fecal, heart worm and hematocrit tests, and run the chemistry and CBC machine for bloodwork.
Growing up around horses I’ve learned to read their ears and body language which also allows me the knowledge to Know when I can push a little more or when I need to back off and leave them alone. I’ve worked at a barn across from my home for about 2 years turning in and turning out about 7 horses around feeding time. Aside from working there I’ve ridden horses inconsistently as I grew up. I did however vault at another stable for a little over a year and got to experience a vaulting competition (I didn’t get to compete my sister did). Recently I worked at a stable feeding horses and mucking out stalls and paddocks. I’ve learned how to deworm them and safety precautions needed for when I feed them in their pins. To add to my barn experience I also know how to run a tractor, lawnmower, and weed eater.
I don’t have any specialties except for the passion to take care of and ride horses. I’m also willing to travel anywhere in the country for work.
I learned some reining growing up it’s not perfect but The more I do it the better I will be.
