Equine Work Experience
My experience (starting at 12 yrs old) is comprised of one year of saddle-bred seat, one year of hunt-seat, four years eventing, then returning to hunt-seat/dressage now that I am at university. I sat on a horse at the eventing barn for three-and-a-half years, and she honestly scared me and ruined my canter seat. Everyone was afraid of her because you couldn't canter her without her trying to bronc you (at the time I no idea how to canter). Needless to say, my riding did not go very far, but I learned a lot about working around horses as the owner of the barn allowed me to do chores/feeding. I also wanted to be able to know why the said horse bucked and if she could do well. It turns out that she just needed to be in regular and consistent work, and that it was more of a behavioral issue of what to do with herself when she got excited. My ground experience more confident than my riding, and has grown a lot since going to Emory and Henry Uni, especially working as a stable hand.
