Qualifications

I have worked at multiple barns and have taken many equine and animal science classes. I have gained basic riding skills and equine management skills. I also work at Poplar Animal Hospital, in Concord. I learned how to work with a team and be able to work by myself. Working there also helped to strengthen my time management skills and helped me to expand my veterinary knowledge. I know how to properly take care of animals and how to safely work with them.

Duties of Current Occupation

I take care of the animals that are staying at the hospital. I walk them, make sure they have enough water, are properly fed, have their proper medications, and are ready for when they leave. I also will help the vet techs with restraint and meds.

Equine Work Experience

I have a good bit of background experience in working with horses. I took many equine and animal science classes at Northwest Cabarrus High School. We had many animals on campus, including horses, cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, goat, and a few others. I worked with them daily and was in charge of taking care of them. I was on the Northwest Cabarrus High School FFA officer team, so in the summer I was the one who took care of the animals and was primarily in charge of taking care of them. In college, I had taken Equine Science 110 with Dr. Pratt Phillips and Animal Science 150 and 151 with Dr. Flowers. I have also helped at many barns helping working with equine, their general care, and the upkeep of their stables and environment. I worked with Ms.Kim Hill, Ms. Scarlett Parker, and my friend Sarah Newman to help work on there barns and horses. I was also a part of the NCHS horse judging team.

Type of Ride Work

I have not done much riding. At Northwest, the equine science classes had us also learn the basics of riding. We would all take turns riding the four horses on campus, in the round pen. I know how to saddle both western and english saddles and I know the basics of riding. I also rode a little with my friend Sarah Newman, but the horse I rode was very good at his job and did most of the work.
