Equine Work Experience

I started volunteering at my local stable when I was fourteen doing barn work such as mucking, feeding, grooming, and tacking for lessons. I lived and worked on a farm for four months for my internship in MD, where I was responsible for the daily care of 90+ horses (feeding hay/grain/forage, watering, doctoring, grooming, turn in/out) and working with/providing direction to Scout troops, school trips, volunteers and visitors. I pay close attention to the body language and emotions of horses I work with and am always developing my skills to respond appropriately. I am vigilant for changes in health and behavior and follow up to ensure necessary care is given. I work well alone and with others, am easy to get along with, and can communicate with coworkers to coordinate tasks. I’m eager to help in an emergency or if someone needs an extra pair of hands. I like being a leader in areas I excel in when others need guidance, and am a good listener when I need help with or am new to something.

Specialities

During my internship at Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Maryland, I worked with many horses that had been neglected and abused. Navigating the physical, mental, and emotional impacts on these horses helped make me more confident in my handling and ability to communicate clearly to establish trust. There I also worked with yearlings and formerly feral horses. I have a lot of drive and am ready to learn anything someone is willing to teach me, and conquer any task quickly and efficiently.

Type of Ride Work

I started riding when I was six at a local barn, and as I rode many lesson horses, often a different one each lesson, I learned to adjust to unique temperaments, personalities, and behaviors. I have experience in jumping and cross country, and was invited to my barn's select performing drill team, increasing my awareness, coordination with others on horseback, and harmony with my horse. I can W/T/C English and Western, and am confident on trails. I have experience teaching beginner lessons.
