I have had many years of hands-on experience working with a variety of different horse breeds with an array of temperaments. I have given lessons, lead trails, practiced barn maintenance, and equine husbandry. My years at college gave me further understanding of equine anatomy and physiology, nutrition, diseases, bandaging, radiology, and more. I also did a research project on hippotherapy and was able to observe therapy sessions.
As a stablehand I practiced general husbandry associated with equine and barn management, medical monitoring and management of rescue horses, special preparation of medications and feed, wound care, disease prevention and quarantine practice.
I have had two years of experience at the Keep ‘Em Healthy Veterinary Clinic as well as an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from Vermont Technical College. Prior to my experience as a veterinary technician I have had many years of experience working at a dog kennel and multiple equine facilities. I began working with horses in 2005 at a ranch where I remained until 2015. I expanded my knowledge at college where I gained experience not only in riding but in husbandry and medical care. I also completed a project regarding hippotherapy. In September of 2018 I had the opportunity of working at a draft horse rescue where I was able to apply the knowledge I learned and assist very debilitated horses in finding their forever home. I currently care for a Quarter horse and participated in a co-op board with three other horses over the last winter.
I exclusively rode western up until last year but have more recently been exposed to other styles of riding. I participated in my first show last fall, and have begun longlining and ground driving over the winter.
