I am a hard worker who is used to working early in the morning till later in the evening. I am a fast learner and willing to try my hand at anything or research anything that I am not already skilled. I can work alone or in a group well. I pay attention to detail and can notice small changes in horses' personality or gaits. I am a good communicator and will ask questions or make someone aware of information. I am a capable leader and follower, depending on the situation at hand.
I assist the barn technician in the upkeep of the barn, stalls, dry lots and tack room. I feed, administer pharmaceuticals, and evaluate condition of the WKU herd (25 horses). I ride and lunge the horses to maintain their training and condition.
I am a senior Equine Science and Agribusiness student at Western Kentucky University. I will be graduating the end of April 2021. I have completed many Animal and Equine Science classes. I am currently a part time student barn worker responsible for taking care of a 25 head herd. Roles that I perform regularly include feeding, health checks, giving vaccines and medicines, exercising with lunging or riding, and basic barn cleaning chores. I have also assisted in research studies that included activities such as drawing blood, taking vitals and fecal egg counts.
As an Equine Science major, I have a wide knowledge of nutrition, health & welfare, and production. I also have knowledge of riding multiple disciplines and training practices such as lunging and breaking. As a double major, I have also taken numerous Agribusiness classes to broaden my skill set in equine management practices and the business side of an equine operation.
I started riding trail when I was young. I started taking lessons and classes at WKU in Fall 2018 starting with a Basic Equitation class in the western discipline. I continued with hunt seat and dressage lessons in Spring 2019. I have taken lessons with the professor and a professional dressage trainer, both at WKU. Last year, I added jumping lessons at a show jumper barn in Tennessee. I ride many disciplines so I can mirror the training of WKU horses, old and young, pony to retired racehorse.
I have competed in hunter and dressage shows in Tennessee with Western Kentucky University.
