I have witnessed and helped with several horse euthanizations and colics. I do not have any professional education but, I have experience administering dewormer and medicine, I can clean wounds and change dressings. I can confidently handle and restrain a horse.
I've been around horses for about 14 years now. I started visiting a local stable when I was 12 years old where I was introduced to the local trainer of the farm. She had 17 horses herself however, this farm had about 150 horses in total. After I completed my first summer camp, I was immediately sucked in and started coming weekly, and slowly I was finding myself there everyday. Working for this trainer, I spent a lot of time assisting with her lessons and learned all of the basics. I would clean stalls, feed/groom, tack up, etc in exchange for free riding practice. Since it was such a large farm, I got to meet so many individuals and had an opportunity to learn how to ride several breeds of horses and all types of disciplines. I also learned how to drive horses. Spending close to a decade at this particular farm, I have witnessed and helped with several horse camps and lessons, managing a group of children, and running “fun” horse shows.
