I was in the Southington Agricultural Science Program where I worked and gained experience working with horses.
I was also enrolled at Animal Behavior College working towards getting my certificate to be a veterinary assistant. I dropped out before finishing my courses due to medical issues.
I started working with horses around the age of 14 where I mostly cleaned out paddocks in exchange for a weekly riding lesson and the hours counted towards my grade in the Agricultural Science Program. After a few months, I was cleaning stalls, racking up/untacking horses for the riding instructors, cleaning/refilling water buckets and even preparing the feed for the morning and evening. I worked at the barn for roughly 6 years
I’m very meticulous when it comes to cleaning and the overall care for horses so I’m constantly sweeping up and tidying up everything.
I’ve worked with mostly geldings and mares of varying ages and personalities. I’ve also dealt with various breeds including Quarter Horses, Tennessee Walkers and OTTH.
I personally ride English doing flat work. I was working towards jumping but I didn’t reach that stage yet. I’ve ridden some young/problematic horses and horses with all sorts of different personalities but I’ve never ridden a green horse before.
I’ve never worked for competition yards before or been a competition groom. The barn I worked at would host their own shows so I saw how everything was organized but I only showed once and I never helped out so I’m not sure on how the details go.
