Duties of Current Occupation
Finishing degree in Equine Science and Agricultural Business from Colorado State University. Current position involves training and handling young horses, managing a training barn and client communications, and marketing sales horses.
Equine Work Experience
My degree from CSU has provided me an incredible amount of opportunity and connections in the equestrian industry. I've worked as an assistant trainer, a head and assistant groom, and have definitely done my time with a shovel. These jobs have taught me how to run an organized barn while maintaining individual schedules that fit the unique needs of each animal; considering topics like nutrition, farrier, exercise, and mental needs. I also have over 3 years of experience as a large animal vet tech and/or as the primary caretaker of a barn. These positions have given me extensive experience in identifying medical equine crises; treating common crisis calmly and effectively; administering medications via IV, IM, and oral; and rehabilitation or surgery aftercare. Experience hauling and caring for horses on 20+ hour road trips; and comes with my own 2500HD diesel long bed, capable of hauling gooseneck or bumper pull trailers, and a 2-horse, Warmblood-size horse trailer with tack room.
Specialities
Skilled at working with horses at all walks of life in a variety of disciplines; from halter breaking and saddle starting to finishing and refreshing seasoned competitors. Experience grooming broodmares and training horses to keep a "client ready" barn. Specializing in barn and equine management; skilled at keeping an efficient and organized barn while meeting the individual needs of each horse. Strong communication and people skills; very independent but experienced at leading a large team.
Type of Ride Work
I've spent the last 15+ years of my life on and around horses. My riding and training principles are based in dressage, but I believe in a "well-rounded" training resume. I've attended clinics with a wide variety of trainers, such as Buck Brannaman, Leslie Desmond, Jean Luc Cornille, Gail Pearles, Christian Eagles, Miriam Altman, and many more. I have experience starting horses for many disciplines, including but not limited to dressage, eventing, reining, reined cow horse, and cutting.
Competition Details
I'm the current fundraising chair of the Ranch Horse Versatility Team, a position during which I have held key roles in the success of our two annual campus shows and multitude of off-site competitions. Although my traveling competition skills are rusty, I do have tons of experience grooming in the days beforehand and prepping horses for travel.
