Equine Work Experience

With over 15 years of equine experience, I have become the professional I am today through working in a wide variety of aspects of the industry. My degree as an animal scientist has allowed me to be able to experience the medical and scientific aspect of horses through a hands-on education with veterinarians. I also have experience with running a team, organization, accounting, communication, time management, and customer service through my jobs as a lesson teacher and trail guide. As a trainer I have experience working with horses of different ages, training levels, and disciplines. My favorite accomplishment as a trainer has been training my wild mustang from the Bureau of Land Management in the SoCal TIP challenge. Having two horses of my own and caring for over 20 horses in my program has given me impeccable standards of care; managing turn-out rotations and exercise, supplements, vet and farrier visits, blanketing, training/schooling, and keeping a tidy work space and stalls.

Specialities

My main specialty and passion is educating others; whether that is teaching the students who participate in my lesson program or training new volunteers and employees at the facility. I have found that my main strength is effective communication and being capable of tailoring whatever I am teaching to the individual. This makes me not only a good teacher, but also a great leader because I am an organized individual with a lot of experience and an effective way of communicating ideas.

Type of Ride Work

I have experience in rehabilitating and starting horses, for example my wild mustang from the Bureau of Land Management. I have riding, teaching, and show experience in ranch riding, trail courses, western dressage, equitation and flat work. I also have english riding and showing experience in hunter-jumpers and dressage. I have worked with a wide-variety of breeds and disciplines, starting horses, schooling problem horses, and finishing horses with different movements and cues.

Competition Details

I have show experience in western and english disciplines. I organize and operate shows for my students that have included ranch riding, trail courses, flat classes, equitation, and gymkhana. Putting on these events includes sign-ups, awards, score sheets, finding a reputable judge and vendors, donating to charities, and calculating results. I also have experience working in show barns learning body clipping, braiding, and trailering safely to events.
