Equine Work Experience

I worked as a Stallion Manager at the UC Davis Horse Barn for two seasons, approximately a year. During my time there I learned about the management of equine reproduction, including tracking ovulation in mares with different tools, handling and collecting stallions and a jack, and production of on-farm and shipped breeding doses. I worked closely with the team to manage the timing and practices used to inseminate and check for successful breedings for 10+ mares.

I also ran the Draft Horse and Driving Club at UC Davis which involved teaching others about the maintenance, handling, training, and driving of two percheron mares.

I was a primary caretaker of a variety of livestock such as horses, miniature horses, goats, rabbits, and a pig at a private barn for six years. My duties there include maintaining a consistent schedule of training and feeding, addressing medical issues and administering treatments, and cleaning stalls.

Specialities

I have worked with a variety of equines including broodmares, stallions, foals, yearlings, and jacks. I also have experience training and gentling feral horses.

I lead a club that focused on driving draft horses, and my responsibilities included training new members, organizing events, managing paperwork, and maintaining the welfare of the animals in our care.

Type of Ride Work

I have started young horses from five to nine years old. I have also worked on restarting and refreshing horses that have been out of riding for extended periods of time. I can hitch and drive singles and team for draft horses and light horses and donkeys.

Competition Details

I have represented the University of California Davis at Bishop Mule Days 2022 showing our jack UCD Action's Protege
