I clean horse stalls, put on fly masks, fly boots & sheets, clean water and food troughs, spread shavings, feed horses, turn them out, brush/groom them, apply standing wraps, deliver hay, have assisted vet with X-rays and ulcer scoping.
Equine Work Experience
I grew up with horses - my brother-in-law used to train horses and would have 20 to 30 on his ranch at any given time. As a teenager/young adult I used to help care for them including lunging, grooming, cleaning out hooves.
In addition to everything listed above under 'main duties' I also have experience giving massages and I am working toward getting certified in equine massage therapy. I am very experienced at applying standing wraps and also brushing horses' teeth.
After getting to know a horse for a little while, I am very good at 'reading' them...I understand their body language and usually know what a horse is going to do before he/she does it. I feel that I am very good at communicating with horses.
Type of Ride Work
I owned a horse as a teenager and I used to ride every day. I learned both English and western, but I no longer ride horses, for personal reasons
have not done competition riding - I am only interested in taking care of horses' well-being, not riding them
