I am a keen aspiring groom who has been working with horses on a voluntary basis, and am now looking for a full or part-time opportunity to progress my career and gain more experience. I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. Ideally, I would be looking for a role in the Basingstoke area while I'm learning to drive, but happy to consider a live-in position in the wider Hampshire region or further afield.
Worked as a small animal vet assistant. I have ridden for 20 years in various disciplines. I have owned horses for 13 years and have been largely responsible for their care. Have done most barn chores including feeding, mucking, and turnout. Worked at Padua Racing Stables (when they were in Ocala, FL) and was the part of the broodmare and young horse team.
Have been riding for 20 years in the disciplines of hunter/jumpers, dressage, and eventing. I do not have much show experience as I didn't have the means to do so. I have schooled up to 4th level dressage (some rides on FEI level horses). I have jumped up to 1.2m in the arena and have schooled training level on cross country. I am not a very confident jumper after a few bad experiences, but would love the opportunity to work on this.
Can administer IV, IM, and Sub-Q injections to equines (many years of practice). Able to diagnose and treat many equine ailments (including colic), and determine treatments accordingly. Able to cold hose, wrap, and poultice (etc.) legs and feet. Familiar with most equine diets and supplements and possess attention to detail when it comes to feeding. I am able to pull dislodged shoes if needed.
Able to pull manes, body clip, and bridle paths. Able to braid manes, still working on tails. Proficient in cleaning tack.
Mostly ridden lower level dressage recently, but have done hunters, jumpers, and eventing as well. I have schooled dressage movements such as canter half-pass, canter pirouettes, and tempi-changes as well as lower level movements.
I do not have much competition experience except in a few local schooling shows in dressage, hunters, jumpers, and eventing over the past 20 years.
