Bio
My current day job is in an office, and in my spare time I help out on my parents Cleveland Bay stud. Being in an office does not bring joy, so I am looking for work with horses.Qualifications
Although sadly I do not have any professional qualifications, I am open to taking qualifications if the employer desires. I do take part in online cpd classes ran with BHS, along with other educational online classes with Stallion AI, and Lucinda Green. I'm always looking for ways to improve.
Duties of Current Occupation
I am the main handler and groomer of our horses- from the stallion, to the mares, to the foals. Currently my main area of responsibility is handling the yearling we have bred, grooming and doing light groundwork. Other yard duties as required.
Equine Work Experience
I started riding at the age of 7, and from age 9 have had my own ponies, then onto horses. I have brought on a few from their basic training to compete in local shows, where we have successfully placed. My parents own a Cleveland Bay Stud, where quality, breed compliant horses are produced. This has introduced me to the breeding side of equines, being around the Stallion, mares and foals. This is something I am still learning about from my step-mum, as she ran a successful stud in Calgary, Canada, where she bred international competition horses. At the moment I help with general yard duties, as well as handling the mares, foals and stallion.
Type of Ride Work
Hacking, schooling, and competing.
Hacking is something I have done since I was 9 on my first pony. It is the main way I exercise the horses and ponies I have owned, from short hacks found the block, to 5 hour rides along roads and bridleways. I have also done much work in the school to get horses ready for competing in a variety of disciplines at local shows.
Competition Details
When I was in my teens I competed successfully at local shows on horses that I have trained up (and turned out) myself, often getting placed in the top three, and winning the Overall Supreme Champion twice. More recently I showed a horse at Arena UK in the 2 year old class. Other than that I'm not competing at the moment, with the focus being on breeding and my parents not interested in going to the shows.
