Equine Work Experience
My first internship was organised by my school unfortunately only lasted three weeks but it was my first experience with working as a groom, I got to spend my time mucking, grooming and sweeping but I will never forget it because those were the best three weeks for a long time. I also got a summer job as a janitor at my stable and got to help with all the things you take for granted when paying for lessons. I painted poles and feeding stations, helps build a pasture I the woods, picked weeds to clean up the place and I loved it. I also had another internship for a week and got to groom horses, deep clean stables and walk injured horses.
Specialities
I’ve been an organised person for my whole life and they reflects well on how I take care of the stable and horses I ride. In the 7 years that I’ve ridden I have always made sure that I leave it better than it was when I came and that includes horses, always make sure that they are clean when you leave them.
Type of Ride Work
I’ve ridden a lot of different horses, including: Retired race horses that still had a lot of energy to let out. Green ponies and horses that has a hard time timing jumps by them selves which puts a lot of responsibility on the rider to help them. Horses and ponies with a lot energy that you have to transfer into movement and not just speed.
Competition Details
I’ve been a volunteer at a bunch of different competitions and been a groom for a couple of friends. I personally lost the motivation when I couldn’t find a horse a really connected with and due to lack of money I couldn’t go out and find a horse a wanted so the riding school horses where all I had. But I cleared a couple of 70cm rounds and has since then gathered more experience and courage to try again.
