Qualifications

I have a 4 year horse behavioural science college under my belt. It was developed by Annemarie van der Toorn and I obtained it in the Netherlands and it's internationally recognised. The course is a mix of horse training methods based on natural behaviour and psychology with added modules on veterinary practice, ethology and learning theories. Both theory and hands-on. This is an instructor course as well, so I'm qualified to teach this matter. I also have a hacking and guiding certificate.

Duties of Current Occupation

Trekking Guide. Horse Trainer & Starting Youngsters. Travel Guide. Yard Manager. First Aid Person. Team Leader. Riding Instructor. Mare & Foal Handler/Educator. Yard Worker. Groom.

Equine Work Experience

I've been a trail/trek guide for 5 years for all levels, ages and terrains. Accident and injury coordinator and first aid person when something went wrong with one the thousands of people. Can do basic vet procedures and animal first aid. I have worked in mare handling and foal education at large studs in New Zealand. Being responsible for teaching 160 foals all the basics each season. I'm well schooled in horse behavioural science and have worked for years in starting and problem fixing in the UK.

Specialities

I love working with both people and horses. My specialties are: Teaching and guiding people with their horses. Creating a safe and healthy environment to learn new skills and knowledge. I am well trained for anything to do with a horse's behaviour. I can teach them new skills/cues, (pre)start under saddle, desensitisation, fix problem behaviour and boost their confidence. I have lead teams between 3 and 20 people at different levels yards. Can tow a trailer and drive tractors.

Type of Ride Work

I have the most experienced with riding young horses who are in a starting process. I have light hands and I'm able to communicate clearly what I'm asking in a kind way. I can hack out well and I'm often the one to take an inexperienced horse out for the first time. I have over 10.000 hours in the saddle either on youngsters or as a trail guide but I am no fancy dressage rider or chase the highest jumps. Brave but not stupid :)
