Responsible for mucking & turning out everyday. Exercising & schooling horses. Supervising students on the yard. General care for competition horses. Handling, breaking & training young horses. Teaching students stable management. Feeding am & pm.
I have worked in Kildalton college as an ETB Working student for the last 2 years. I was responsible for students and the horses on the yard. I have been grooming for Rosemary for the last 2 years which I have obtained a massive amount of knowledge in the discipline dressage. This has also given me the chance to groom internationally for the Irish Paralympics team. I warm one horse up whilst she rides one and then we swap and I cool down the first. I get to exercise both of her horses. Before Kildalton I was working in a riding school with trekking and livery. Here I gained most of my experience as I was there since I was a child. I have a lot of experience from the riding school dealing with the public and also the trekking. I'm a trustworthy and reliable person. I handle the money from the customers from both lessons & trekking. Here I worked in the riding school, trekking, liveries, hunters, polo horses and point-to-pointers. It was a very busy yard so I am not afraid of hard work.
During my time in KiIdalton I was given a lot of responsibilities. I looked after the role call and organised when students had to repay time. I was in charge of the feeds for over 50 horses whether they need more/less. When the feed ran low I organised with the yard manager to restock. I have a very high standard for keeping a yard tidy. During my time there was given the opportunity to groom internationally for Rosemary Gaffney representing Ireland in Dressage for the Paralympics.
I have ridden all sorts of horses including young, green, well established, polo horses and thoroughbreds. I done pony club as a child so I competed quiet a bit. I competed up to 1m track, hunter trialed over an open course. I hunted with the Waterford's from the age of 7. Recently I have been getting further educated in the discipline of dressage which would have been one of my weakest points. I have now trained my eye up to novice and advanced medium. I have broken and produced horses myself.
I competed low level when I had my own horse until I was 16. I show-jumped 1m tracks, hunter trialed open course and took part in ODE. Whilst in Kildalton I was responsible for 3 competition horses (2 Dressage & 1 Eventer) as well as the rest of the yard. For the last 2 years I have been a groom for Rosemary Gaffney representing Ireland. I have groomed internationally with her. I am so lucky to have gained so much experience with her. I take pride in my work and everything is to a high standard.
