Qualifications
I am currently studying a bachelor's degree in Animal science, at University College Dublin. I was also apart of the national team for the Young Breeder's Programme.
Duties of Current Occupation
I have worked Part time in retail, Hardware and construction, learning relevant social, Timekeeping, Problem solving, and teamwork skills.
Equine Work Experience
My brother and I manage our family farm. The breeding program consists of approximately 15 mares and our own resident stallion. The broodmare herd is a mixture of RID, TIH, and continental warmblood mares. Each year we aim to breed approximately 15 foals by our resident stallion, stallions standing in Ireland, and proven continental stallions. Growing up on my family farm, I have learned countless skills and met many people involved in the equine sector. I also have a full clean driving licence and trailer/Horsebox licence. I worked with an agricultural fencing contractor for two years so can drive machinery and put up agricultural fencing.
Specialities
I have worked with our own stallions every year during the busy breeding season. I also have worked with lots of horses, from foals to three-year-olds, to broodmares. I feel like I have an excellent understanding of necessary skills of breeding aspects. I have spent numerous hours with the vet every week scanning broodmares, Microchipping and marking foals, inseminating mares, and aiding sick animals. I also have prepared foals and mares for selection process for premium sales and regular sales.
Type of Ride Work
In my younger years, I rode horses but as I got older I focused more on the breeding side of things.
