Equine Work Experience

I have been a part of Cherry Orchard Equine Centre in Dublin, Ireland, for 14 years now. I have worked professionally in this centre for one year. Tasks and Duties would consist of; Clearing ragweed and foxglove out of the fields, Keeping up and maintaining a safe field environment; making sure the fences and wires were not damaged, ensuring there were no rabbit holes in the grass, keeping the water fresh and clean to prevent abdominal and guttural infections/problems, Grooming a yard of 26 horses, making sure they had the right feed and supplements required. Unrug horses in the early morning and re-rug them at night, Carrying heavy loads of feed and hay, water during the winter as sometimes the automatic watering systems would freeze up, Working as part of a team when the centre was overly busy, we would take a task or groups to ensure the equine ran smoothly and efficiently to provide the best service to paying customers, I would lead group trips/ rides/ hacks

Specialities

I have worked mainly with stallion, geldings and mares. I muck out stables/yards at an efficient pace and of great standard, I have experience leading/ teaching groups of children and teens in ; personal safety in the stables, and around horses/ ponies, and on welfare of horses and ponies, how to tack up horses, clean tack properly, how to groom and the importance of grooming and so much more. I, myself have BHS Stage 1 completed, have experience feeding/watering/grooming and more.

Type of Ride Work

I have ridden young horses from aged 3 and above, I would be put on horses if there were any problems including bucking/rearing, a bolting risk, easily spooked, new horses, horses who refused jumps, horses who take advantage of inexperienced riders. In my own time, for 14 years, I would ride 5 times a week and 2 of those being showjumping lessons with a professional trainer. I have jumped over 160 being my best at age 13 and have grown a lot in potential. I have many years of flatwork experience

Competition Details

I have competed in many local show jumping events and charity events.
