I am looking for a job during a 3-4 month period from Dec. 2018 or Jan. 2019 during my gap year.
I am looking for cultural exchange and being part of a family/team rather than a high salary :)
Equine Work Experience
Apart from weekly lessons growing up, I stayed at a boarding school that gave the opportunity to ride every day of the week.
As the stables and arena were located on the school, the students, including myself, were responsible for the horses, including feeding, mucking, moving horses to and from paddocks, recognising signs of sickness amongst the horses and learning how to care for them during sickness, watering and caring for the arena, trimming the horses during summer, taking care of all equipment, keeping the stables generally clean etc..
During my stay, we also experienced a 'surprise pregnancy' as one of the newly bought mares turned out to pregnant. Therefore, I also have some experience with mares close to foaling and mares with newborn foals.
I used to work at my riding school preparing horses for- and assisting during riding lessons for disabled.
My no.1 'speciality' is that I am curious and a fast learner.
I am fit and capable of most stable work (very heavy lifting excluded).
I am passionate about horses - both riding them and their physiology, as I'm considering studying to be a veterinary after summer 2019 :)
I'm interested in natural horsemanship - I've previously taken 2 day-courses.
Type of Ride Work
I have the most experience with English riding, as I took lessons once a week from age 8 till 15, then stayed on a boarding school for a year that provided 3 lessons a week + the ability to ride freely the remaining days of the week. I have done some jumping, but never above 70 cm or about 28 inches. I've tried western riding a couple of times and found it interesting - I'd definitely like to explore that some more!
I have some experience riding young horses, but not breaking them in.
I used to be able to do novice to elementary dressage programs - however, i have not ridden horses on a regular basis for 2 years now.
I only participated in competitions when I was younger - I got placed 1st in a novice (or preliminary??) dressage test when I was 12 or so. I do not know exactly how dressage levels work in the international system, even though I have tried researching it.
