Equine Work Experience
My first equine experience has been since I was little taking riding lessons until I was 15. I have worked as a barn hand/ lesson assistant at Bayview Equestrian for a year while I was riding there myself. I worked primarily with the lesson program horses and boarding horse with a total of about 50-60 horses. Along with other barn workers I would turn out, feed, muck stalls and during winter blanket/wrap any horses who needed it. During the day I would get the horses ready for lessons (tack up and lunge in needed) for younger children or learn to ride students. I’d help the instructor during lessons to set up poles or courses and fix anyone stirrups, grab crops and get people mounted on their horse. As part of the lesson programme during the summer I assisted with the Sumer camp. This included basic roles of helping during lessons but also providing horsemanship and basic care lessons. From vet school so far I’ve learnt more about equine health & wellness.
Specialities
Experience with medical care of horses including specialized knowledge of basic first aid, dietary needs and other medical conditions. I’m quite knowledge at assisting lessons/summer camps due to previous experience with both equestrian and non-equestrian programme for children.
Type of Ride Work
My experience has been with well trained horses mostly so far. I have limited experienced with more difficult horse, but I have ridden horses who are younger/less experienced , OTTB (but already backed) under the guidance and training of my instructor. All riding I’ve done to date has been mostly English hunters/jumpers and flat work.
