As previously stated, I have a BSc (Hons) in Zoology, a three year degree which allowed me to test not only my academic skills but also my social skills. My degree, alongside my extra-curriculum activities such as volunteering as a veterinary nurse, training in first-aid, and working under stressful and unfamiliar conditions (work in Costa Rica, Seychelles, South Africa) has allowed me to evolve and learn to thrive under difficulties, solve any problem individually, & adapt to all environments.
Recently graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a Bachelors of Science with Honours in Zoology. With this degree, I was able to focus on animal health and physiology, and specialise in genetics, developmental biology, and parasitology.
I have been working closely with horses for over 10 years now, as my father was deeply involved in horse management when I was young. After a fall and a serious injury that left him with permanent damage to a leg muscle, any interest he had was passed onto me, and I was able to continue my training. While most of my childhood was spend learning as a groom to care for horses and the stables, as I began to grow many new enthusiasts would ask me for advice which later led me to assist with lessons and training of beginner and amateur riders of all ages, and lend a helping hand in any way I could with intermediates and higher levels. This culminated during my teenage years, as when I turned 16 I was able to be employed part-time, and began training under a horsemanship specialist of my region, as well as working with his colleague to expand my knowledge on managing the stables, finances, and the grounds. I was able to remain there until I turned 18, and moved to England for university.
The broadness of the title 'Zoology' as well as the many module choices of my university allowed me to perfectly balance practical skills alongside the development of advanced biology and the mammalian body. With many opportunities presented both in the lab (conducting examinations and necropsies) and in the field (behavioural assessments) I was able to deeply advance my knowledge on animal health and their enrichment, and further specialize in the breeding genetics and development of embryos.
Much of my riding was focused on efficient flat-work and behavioural corrections as many of the horses I was given were previously abused, and had either physical or mental damage, allowing me to test my horsemanship skills and learn about the psychology of horses. This later evolved into a love for show-jumping, a love that introduced me to competitive riding and has now inspired me to pursue further knowledge on dressage, which I have only trained in for 5 years but wish to expand and master.
Primary competition experience revolves around show-jumping, with a recent focus on dressage and introducing young or untrained horses to a show. Alongside my individual competing, I was able to compete in a team during country-wide events and tournaments, assist my employers with the care and grooming of their horses during any kind of competition, as well maintaining the equipment in pristine shape.
