Duties of Current Occupation

I am currently in a non-horsey occuption but have previously worked with horses and in several horse orientated positions

Equine Work Experience

I worked at an equestrian centre in Tasmania, Australia, for several years leading beginner/intermediate riders lessons, I worked children beginners primarily, teaching them skills on and off the horse, as well as helping the yard owner work and take care of horses, clients and the property. I also previously worked in a retail outlet, PETstock country, where I sold horse orientated supplies such as feed, supplements, rugs, boots, helmets and other gear which I needed experience and knowledge to do so.

Specialities

taking control of high stress environments and making sure everything is done fast and efficiently, excellent time management and communication skills, ensuring everyone is at their lesson on time and prepared, tacking up, mucking out stalls/paddocks, turning out horses, rugging, feeding, general yard maintenance, dealing with difficult horses - particularly ottbs and youngsters.

Type of Ride Work

I owned two of my own off the track Thoroughbreds and primarly rode horses new to the yard, such as ottbs and other youngesters, difficult horses owned by the yard owner/her other clients, as well as just working school horses for the yard owner. I rode english and did flat work and dabbled in show jumping and cross country with a variety of different horses - from school ponies to serious event horses.

Competition Details

I have helped at many pony clubs volunteering, as well as helping my previous instructor with show prep and assisting as her groom at competitions.
