Camp Misty Mountain (located 40 minutes north of Rome, GA and right outside of Calhoun, GA) is looking for weekend programming specialists for our Equestrian Center. Our programming includes pony rides, riding lessons and trail rides for a variety of groups and ages during troop camps, weekend camping events and family camps. Staff can decide which weekends they would like to work, however most staff work between 2 to 4 weekends a month. Staff are required to live in our on site housing from Friday through Sunday when working the weekend.
All candidates must have extensive riding and horse experience, preferably with a natural horsemanship basis. We offer lessons both in English and Western, so the ideal candidate will have experience in both disciplines. Typical weekends include: Feeding, Bring In/Turn Out, Mucking Stalls, Grooming, Tacking both English and Western, Teaching Lessons, Guiding/Dragging Trails and when time allows, staff rides.
Staff will also have the opportunity to receive training (and possibly certification) in a wide range of sports and activities and gain immense amounts of leadership and facilitation experience in other activities in addition to working in the barn. This is an ideal role for individuals seeking to expand their skills in customer service, youth leadership, experiential education, curriculum design, and environmental education.
We are a Girl Scout Focusing on building girls of courage, confidence, and character is our main priority. We have a 21 year old barn with a 25-30 head herd. We run summer camp and an extremely busy weekend schedule for the rest of the year. Our program includes both English and Western disciplines including trail rides on our beautiful 1,000 acre property. We have three sand rings and 15 miles of trails. The stable holds 24 horses with four stalls attached to our hay barn. There are two paddocks connected to the stable by a courtyard, with a third paddock being built currently. There is a 25+ acre pasture up a hill for a vacation spot for some of our horses when the camp is not busy. We have an overnight trail program that includes riding out to a paddock at our primitive campsite and making camp for the night.
