Working for Jennifer has been an educational and valuable experience. Throughout my summer internship I have learned how to be a better barn manager, improve my riding, and expand my knowledge of horse health care. I have had the opportunity to perform equine mechanical massage, fecal egg counts, and contribute to a training manual, all of which are specialized skills. Jennifer emphasizes core balance as the cornerstone of good riding techniques. Combining trail, bareback, and in-saddle riding has allowed me to develop my balance without the monotony of constant arena work. The facility is remote with access to beautiful riding trails right on the property. With three horses to ride and different training every day, I look forward to every ride knowing it will be unique and challenging. It is a very positive work environment which encourages interns to set and achieve goals. Work duties are clearly laid out with a whiteboard that promotes responsibility. Even from my first day, I knew exactly what tasks needed to be completed on a daily and weekly basis. I appreciated the clarity in her expectations, which set me up for success. The facility recently relocated, and although the established tasks remained the same, Jennifer was open to ideas and suggestions. As an intern I am used to my opinions being rejected and unwanted, but Jennifer valued my ideas and gave them merit. During my summer at Blue Sage Canyon I have grown in confidence as both a rider and a barn manager. Jennifer has helped me become more forward-thinking, independent, and conscientious of my decisions regarding horse care. This internship is geared towards helping students become better prepared for future careers in the equine industry. I highly recommend this internship to anyone who wants to expand their skills with the help of an employer who truly values their goals and interests. I am incredibly grateful for this experience and for everything Jennifer has done to help continue my education.[Deleted] 7/20/2019
