ISO Barn Manager/Trainer/Instructor for private family farm. Candidates should have extensive sole charge experience as a barn manager. The right person will have current experience eventing at the training/preliminary level or higher, and be able to confidently put together a training/conditioning program for event & fox hunting horses. Seeking a self-starter, a professional with a pleasant personality and excellent work ethic. You must be small enough to ride a large pony, a non-smoker, speak excellent English and able to work legally in the US. In addition, candidates must be able to live on the farm full-time. Duties include:

  • Barn Management (nutrition program, training schedule, management of barn assistant, vet/farrier scheduling, ordering supplies)
  • Daily Care of Horses (feeding; mucking; turnout; blanketing; routine health & grooming, including braiding & clipping; equine first-aid & basic veterinary skills required: someone able to detect minor lameness & competent to manage other injuries or colic, comfortable giving IM shots (IV shot competency is also appreciated but not required)
  • Riding/training of several horses & ponies for fox hunting & eventing (one horse currently events at Training level, others fox hunt ~ very strong flat work/dressage background; must be comfortable jumping a stadium course of 3'3"-3'6")
  • Provide instruction to family members, including children
  • Consult with vet/farrier/dentist, and carry out any medical or rehabilitative care
  • Basic Farm/Barn Maintenance (care & cleaning of all barn areas; maintain outdoor riding ring; knowledge/ability to set a jump course required; ability to drive a small tractor helpful)
  • Care of other animals on the farm (barn cats & donkeys) and occasional care of owners’ dogs, chickens, duck, rabbits & parakeets

Requirements

Work 6 days/week, including weekends and holidays but with some flexibility to coordinate time off with barn assistant for holidays and personal competition. Willingness and ability to work with a part-time barn assistant during daily chores/tasks
